WHAT IS THE HANDICAP

The Handicap is a 10 kilometres race around the streets of Berowra. The race starts and finishes at Warrina St Oval, Warrina St, Berowra. The handicap year commences in February and concludes in November. The Handicap is run on first Sunday of each month starting at 7.15am sharp. (Timing Clock will start at 7.15am) The best 8 results, out of a possible 10, are totalled and the person with the most points, is the Handicap Champion for that year.

HOW DOES THE HANDICAP WORK

Runners are set off at varying times with each runner starting at a time suitable to their running ability. The assessment of such time is set out below. The slower runners commence first with the fastest runner starting last. The object being that the majority of runners will finish around the sixty minute mark. Thus, for example,if your time for running 10km was approximately 45 minutes then you would start the race with a handicap of 15 minutes.Or,another example,if your time for running 10km was approximately 55 minutes, then you would start the race with a handicap of 5 minutes. Therefore, each runner is on an equal footing, with an equal chance of winning the race despite the runners ability.
