LETTER OF WELCOME & INTRODUCTION
DEAR FELLOW RUNNER.

The members of the Berowra R.S.L., Bowling & Community Club, (Club Berowra), BUSH RUNNERS SUB-CLUB heartily welcomes you to our Sunday morning runs. We hope you will be able to join with us in our runs as well as social activities that are organised throughout the year. Many friendships have been formed over the years and this has led to a terrific spirit within the group. A special welcome if you are new to Berowra.

1. HISTORY
The Berowra Bushrunners was formed in 1987 by Dave McMahon, Paul Gunning and Bob McCreath and has continued with an active membership of around forty. Initially the group was an informal one until in 1990 the decision was made to join the R.S.L. as a sub-club, (see explanation later).

2. RUNS
We meet every Sunday morning at 7.30 am rain, hail or shine at Warrina Street Oval. A program of different runs is prepared by the committee and lasts for around 3 months. See Calendar of Club Events page. The runs are varied and take advantage of the fantastic bush trails that surround Berowra. The most popular course is the Bush run, and its route is shown on the Tracks WEB page. The average distance of runs is about 10 km, however, most runs have cut off points if you are not up to the full distance. Members usually run in small groups or in pairs with people of similar fitness and speed. The runs are non-competitive -with the exception of the monthly handicap.

3. HANDICAPS
On the first Sunday of each month a handicap race is held. The course is a measured one of 10 kms and has been in use for the last 3 years. It follows an out and back course around the streets of Berowra. Points are awarded according to position (SEE CLUB POLICIES) and they are accumulated for an annual trophy -The Handicap Trophy. There are rules governing the running of the handicap. The most important one being (initially) that new members must complete two handicaps before being eligible to accumulate points or be an official winner. This rule enables the handicapper to fairly work out a handicap time. The handicaps are keenly contested and are well supported

4. MEMBERSHIP
People of all ages and running ability are welcome.

Membership of the Berowra R.S.L. Bowling & Community Club (Club Berowra)

In 1990 the Bushrunners applied for and were accepted as a sub-club of this parent club. It was done for three reasons:

i. To obtain legal cover in the case of an accident and possible litigation against the Bushrunners Club Committee and members. This was the most important reason.

ii. To obtain accident insurance for club members.

iii. To take advantage of the Friday Sub-Club raffle draw. This nets approximately $150 each seven weeks. This is a most convenient way of raising funds.

After a period of six (6) weeks, new members are expected to join the Bushrunners and the Berowra R.S.L. Bowling & Community Club. Application forms are enclosed. Annual membership of the Bushrunners is $11.00 (for 2003) and the R.S.L. $11.00 currently (2000). The membership form for the Bushrunners should be returned to the Treasurer with the Annual Membership fee. They then fall due in December.

The application for membership for the parent club -the R.S.L. should be lodged with payment at the R.S.L. Junior members (under 18) are exempt from R.S.L. membership.

10. GENERAL
The club has operated over the years at an unsophisticated level with the emphasis placed on enjoying an early Sunday morning run together. It has led to lasting friendships and members have inspired each other to improve their fitness and take on challenges that they would never have attained without the support of fellow club members.
